Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering services for Elkridge Volunteer Fire Station, a new two-story, 34,000-square-foot fire station in Elkridge, Maryland. The project replaced an outdated facility originally constructed in the 1940s with a modern public safety building designed to support larger emergency apparatus, expanded operations, and long-term community growth.
The masonry and steel-framed structure includes a large apparatus bay, hose tower, equipment rooms, administrative offices, classroom and training spaces, a multi-use assembly hall, living quarters, and support spaces for on-duty personnel. The facility was designed to improve emergency response functionality while accommodating the operational demands of modern fire service equipment.
A unique aspect of the project was the integration of architectural features intended to support future firefighter training exercises. Morabito Consultants coordinated structural systems and building elements to ensure durability, adaptability, and long-term performance for both emergency response and training functions.
The roof systems were engineered to support a green roof and other sustainable design features, contributing to the project achieving LEED Silver certification. The completed fire station provides a resilient, high-performance facility that enhances emergency response capabilities while supporting training, operations, and community use.
