2400 Market Street Floodproofing

Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering services for the renovation and floodproofing of 2400 Market Street, a ten-story building along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The project supported a major building renovation while implementing comprehensive flood mitigation measures in response to updated FEMA flood mapping and local floodplain requirements.
Structural flood mitigation services included the design of new exterior masonry floodwalls and reinforcement of the existing building envelope to resist increased flood loads. Morabito Consultants strengthened original masonry and concrete wall systems using steel girts and columns, helping the building meet dry floodproofing performance requirements while preserving the existing structure.
The project also incorporated temporary and removable floodproofing systems for building openings and critical interior areas, allowing the renovated facility to maintain day-to-day functionality while providing protection during flood events. The completed improvements were verified to comply with ASCE 24-14 dry floodproofing requirements and provide a watertight building envelope capable of resisting design flood elevations.
