Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering services for the relocation of three existing three-story residence halls, Alcock, Tuttle, and Gallagher, as part of Goucher College’s campus transformation initiative. Services included the design of new foundations and basement foundation walls, connections between the existing buildings and their new foundations, modifications to first-floor lintels to accommodate ADA-compliant entrances, and new egress stairs extending to the basement levels. The team also completed pre- and post-relocation structural assessments and developed a temporary steel transfer system utilizing wide-flange beams to support the buildings during relocation and prevent lateral pressure on existing concrete walls.

The relocation of the historic dormitories created space for the new First Year Village, a student housing community composed of three four-story residence halls arranged around a shared central green. Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering design services for the approximately 125,500-square-foot development, which accommodates 450 students and includes Selz Hall (52,000 SF), Fireside Hall (39,000 SF), and Trustees Hall (34,500 SF). Structural systems for the new residence halls include steel moment frames, metal stud bearing walls, composite steel joists, and cold-formed metal stud roof trusses, creating a durable and efficient housing environment that supports student life and engagement.
