Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering design services for the WellSpan Health Heart & Vascular Center, a two-story, approximately 61,000 square-foot medical office building located at Apple Hill Medical Center in York, Pennsylvania. The facility was designed to support specialized cardiovascular care, including clinical, diagnostic, and rehabilitation functions.
The structural system consists of a steel-framed structure supported on reinforced concrete foundations, with composite floor construction utilizing concrete slab on metal deck and steel beams and girders. The roof system is framed with bar joists and metal deck, including long-span joists designed to span multiple bays over an open gym space to maintain column-free areas. A significant portion of the second-floor structure supports a large outdoor terrace incorporating green roof elements, planters, and architectural features such as a steel pergola, requiring enhanced structural framing design to accommodate increased loading.
The building also includes prominent architectural features such as atrium spaces integrated into the main lobby and waiting areas, as well as structural provisions for canopies and potential future expansion. Morabito Consultants delivered a coordinated structural solution that supports the facility’s complex program requirements while maintaining flexibility, durability, and efficient construction.
