Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering design services for North Dorchester High School, a new steel-framed educational facility in Hurlock, Maryland. The school replaces the existing high school and delivers modern academic, athletic, administrative, and shared-use spaces within a cohesive campus environment.
Located adjacent to the existing middle school, the high school includes a two-story connecting structure housing shared administrative offices, a health suite, learning commons, and art and technology classrooms. This campus arrangement supports collaboration, resource sharing, and operational efficiency between grade levels.
The building structure consists of composite steel floor framing supported by wide-flange beams and steel columns, with roof systems using a combination of steel bar joists and metal stud trusses. Large exterior wall openings maximize natural daylight, creating bright, welcoming learning environments while supporting overall building performance.
North Dorchester High School achieved LEED Silver certification, reflecting the project team’s focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, occupant well-being, and long-term educational facility performance.
