Hanover Hills Elementary School
Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering design services for Hanover Hills Elementary School, a two-story, approximately 120,000-square-foot elementary school located within the Oxford Square community in Howard County, Maryland. Developed for the Howard County Public School System, the school accommodates students in grades K–5 and supports the County’s commitment to sustainable, high-performance educational environments.
The masonry and steel-framed structure includes composite steel floor framing, reinforced masonry construction, and long-span steel joist roof systems supporting open program areas such as the gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and shared learning spaces. Exterior walls use brick veneer with reinforced masonry backup for durability and continuity with regional school design standards.
Located adjacent to Thomas Viaduct Middle School, the new facility was planned to enhance campus cohesion while responding to site constraints, infrastructure coordination, natural daylighting, thermal comfort, and efficient material use. Hanover Hills Elementary School achieved LEED Gold certification, reflecting Morabito Consultants’ experience with sustainable school structural design, masonry and steel-framed educational buildings, and high-performance public school facilities.
