Morabito Consultants provided structural engineering services for Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, a multi-phase oceanfront hotel development located on the iconic Ocean City Boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. The project includes a 16-story, approximately 216,000-square-foot hotel with guest suites, retail space, restaurants, recreational amenities, and support areas.
More than a traditional hotel, the complex incorporates resort-style amenities designed to enhance the guest experience, including Boardwalk-level retail space, indoor and outdoor pools, elaborate slide features, a game room, café, restaurant areas, and gathering spaces.
The structural design required detailed coordination of elevated pool areas, recreational features, waterproofing interfaces, floor loading, and phased construction sequencing. Morabito Consultants coordinated these systems to support complex amenity-driven design while maintaining structural efficiency throughout the hotel.
Given the exposed beachfront location, the structural design incorporated specialized systems to resist hurricane-force wind loads, coastal environmental exposure, and floodplain conditions, including design strategies addressing potential scour and long-term structural resilience.
The completed project delivers a large-scale oceanfront hospitality destination that combines phased construction coordination, resilient coastal structural design, integrated retail, and complex resort amenities tailored to a demanding beachfront environment.
