Morabito Consultants provided structural consultation services for the remodeling of this historic factory building on Baltimore’s West North Avenue which had been housing studio space for Maryland Institute College of Art. In addition to updated graduate studio space, the renovated grad center now includes office space, instructional space, labs, a fabrication workshop, spray booths, galleries, and a café. Structural modifications included the stabilization of existing timber floor joists, placement of new topping slabs on the existing wood plank floors, introduction of a new elevator shaft, and the addition of multiple floor openings and feature stairs to provide communication between various levels in the building.
